Dorothy Emery Obituary

Dorothy Jean Emery, age 85, of Delaware, passed away peacefully Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

Dorothy was born in Morral, Ohio on July 9, 1936 to the late Frederick Fetter and Mildred Johnson Fetter.

Preceding her in death were her siblings Charles (Garnet) Fetter, Leroy (Jane) Fetter, Richard (Winnie) Fetter and Helen Hill.

Dorothy attended school in Marion, graduating from Harding High School in 1954. While in school, Dorothy met and later married the love of her life, Gerald ‘Jerry’ Emery, who survives. Dot and Jer recently shared their 64th anniversary of marriage.

Also left to cherish their memories and to continue to share her love with their families are her sons, Tim (Carla) Emery, of Columbus; Terry ‘Chuck’ (Lori) Emery of Dublin; grandchildren, Zachary Emery (Lauren Larkin), Alicia (Brian) Fontanella, Tiffany (Greg) House, Shanon (Troy) Hounshell; greatgrandchildren, Thea Hounshell, Xander House, Amelia House, Gigi Fontanella, Jack Fontanella and Ellie Emery; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

Dot lived in Marion the majority of her years. Strong in her faith, she was a life-long member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. She spent many years working at the Ohio American Water Company, and developed many cherished friendships, with whom she met frequently over lunch, to stay in touch after retiring in 1992. She was also a member of the Women’s Sorority of Beta Sigma Phi where she made many friends over the years.  After retirement, when not living in Marion or Delaware, they resided at Indian Lake for 13 years. Many special memories were created as the family gathered and boated around the lake as often as possible during this time. An avid Buckeye fan, Dot loved the time spent with friends, Jo and Larry Greenwood, tailgating in Columbus for home games in their motorhome and many road trips away games, as well as many years of cruise adventures. Oh, the stories they could tell. Socializing and vacationing with Bill and Jerri Barnhart was also a special time for Dot. She truly cherished her time spent with friends and family. After raising her sons and having the joy of cheering them on during all of their sports activities, Dot transitioned into the biggest cheerleader for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She especially enjoyed watching Zac and his teammates at Pleasant win the 2001 State Baseball Championship. As a loving wife, mother and grandmother, her favorite name was ‘Grandma Dot’, and she found the greatest joy in every moment spent with family, especially the newest generation. Dot enjoyed making many favorite meals for family, baking birthday cakes and cookies, and you were sure to never go away hungry from any occasion. If you never had a Grandma Dot chocolate chip cookie, you’ve never had a chocolate chip cookie. She was loved and will be deeply missed by family and friends, and remembered by all for her love of God, her country, and THE Ohio State Buckeyes.
