Maxine Gray DeLong, 90, died at home on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. She was born on November 14,1931 to Calloway and Nancy (Mills) Gray. She is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Charles, son Paul of Menomonie, Wisconsin and two brothers, Charlie Gray and Calloway Gray Jr. both of Corbin, Kentucky; cherished nephew William Knuckles, Jr. (Beth Anne) and great nephews, Tyler, Matthew, and Joshua Knuckles all of Columbus. She was preceded in death by her parents and sister Aline Hoffman.
After graduating high school, Maxine attended nursing school in Pineville, Kentucky, where she met her husband, and they were married on March 15, 1952 in Jellico, Tennessee. After earning her licensed practical nursing degree, she worked at the Baptist Hospital in Corbin, Kentucky and later was a nurse in a private practice in Williamsburg, Kentucky. In 1963, Maxine moved with her family to Marion, Ohio and in 1965 received her cosmetology license after attending the State Beauty Academy. She then worked as a hairdresser before hiring on at the Quaker Oats Company in 1968, where she was employed until the plant closed in 1990.
As well as an accomplished cook, Maxine was a talented gardener and an avid collector of antiques of all kinds, dolls and teddy bears. She took great pride in her beautiful home and was known for her generous hospitality. Maxine will be missed by many, especially her immediate family and her extended family: Vui Fuerst (“Sun”}, Kim Anna (Jesse) and Kim Dung; Laura Dysert (Todd), Colton Dysert (Breanna); Tim Holt and Dung Tran.
The DeLong family will be receiving friends at the Boyd Funeral Home on Monday, September 19, 2022, from 11:00 AM until service time at 1:00 PM. Rev.
