Alice Prater, 98, of Marion, OH, passed away in the comforting care of Meadows of Marion and Tranquility Hospice. Born on September 7, 1926, in Duco, KY, her late parents, Lacy Prater and Grace Conley, would welcome her into the world. While in Kentucky, she would find the love of her life, Lones B. Prater, and they would get married on February 26, 1946, in Salyversville, KY. They would be together until his passing on June 5, 2006. Alice was a mother and homemaker for most of her life, however during World War 2 she worked in the munitions factory in Marion, OH. Alice was a long time member of the Grand Prairie Baptist Church. She loved raising her children and spending quality time with her family. Besides that, she loved cooking and gardening in her free time.
Alice is preceded in death by her parents, stepmother; Julia Prater, daughter; Joyce (Frank) Godorhazy, and her brothers; Joe and Burl Prater.
She is survived by her sons; Gary (Judy) Prater, and Randy (Julie) Prater, daughters; June Martin and Kim (Greg) Maynard, grandchildren; Paula Dranschak, Travis Martin, Jill Brammer, Julie Alexander, Tyler Maynard, Kelsey Mullett, Aleah Prater, Ben Prater, Johnathan Prater, and Alex Prater, her great grandchildren; Chesney and Bronson Alexander, Reid and Anna Brammer, Aubrey, Macie, Blake, Zeke, and Lucy Prater, Oliver Prater, Luxley Mullett, and Rudy Maynard, and two more great grandchildren on the way.
The Prater family would like to invite Alice’s family and loved ones to join them for calling hours on Tuesday, April 15, 2025, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will start at 1 p.m. after the calling hours. There will be an internment immediately following the service at the Grand Prairie Cemetery. Pastor Ed Goodwin will be officiating all services. In lieu of flowers, donations on Alice’s behalf can be made out to Tranquility Hospice. The Boyd Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Prater family in their time of need.
