It is with great sadness that I announce the passing of Barbara Jayne Hassel on November 19, 2024. Barbara was born on March 26, 1935 in New Castle, Pennsylvania to Ralph White and Julia Zimmerman (Harry). She was a long-time resident of Marion, Ohio.
Barbara was married to Norman Darrell Hassel for 55 years. She was known for her strong will, unwavering determination and love and support for her family and friends. She dearly loved her nieces and nephews and would make a point to tell them always, "I love you with all my heart." Barbara was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt and a fun-spirited soul that would help anyone. Her radiant smile and laugh lit up any room she entered and her ubiquitous sense of humor provided entertainment for all. She loved music, dancing, parties, visiting the beach, fishing at Pymatuning Lake and deep-sea fishing with her grandson, Hunter. Also, dining and shopping with her special friend, Teresa Kessell (Ernie).
Barbara was owner and stylist for Debonee' Beauty Salon where many Marion residents had standing appointments. Barbara retired from Glen-Gary Brick Plant. Barbara attended New Castle High School and attended Muskingum University. She attended New Castle School of Cosmotology and was an accomplished Platform Model in the Pittsburgh area.
Barbara Hassel, a beacon of kindness and love will forever live in our hearts. She is survived by her loving daughter, Deborah Campbell, nieces and nephews, Beth McBride (Mike), Richard Papst (Lori), Gary Papst, Craig Papst, Don Jennings, Ellen Donaldson, Carol Malizia (Mickey) and Joe Rigotti (Susan); grandchildren, Nathaniel Hassel, Hunter Campbell, Megan Hassel, Sierra Siegman, Norman Hassel, Nicholas Kessell, and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by special friend, Teresa Kessell who thought of her as another mother.
She is preceded is death by her parents; husband, Norman Darrell Hassel; son Nathan Darrell Hassel and sister, Beverly Ann Papst.
A memorial service will be held at the Boyd Funeral Home on March 28, 2025, from 10:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. There will be an interment service immediately following at the Chapel Heights Cemetery.
