Betty Jean Fields (Williams), age 89 of Marion, died peacefully on September 11, 2024 at
Kingston Residence of Marion. She was born on July 27, 1935, in Marion, Ohio, to the late
William and Esther (Bowen) Williams. On April 26, 1986, she married Richard E. Fields. They
enjoyed 29 years together, until his passing in 2015.
Betty attended Green Camp High School and was a member of the cheerleading squad. She had
been employed at J.C. Penney and the Marion Power Shovel (MPS) in the auditing departments.
She later retired from the MPS Credit Union. She was known as “Cookie Betty” for her amazing
“best chocolate chip cookies in the world”. She baked thousands of batches for family, friends,
athletic teams; including Olympic athletes and even the Harlem Globetrotters.
Betty will be missed by her children: son, David (Cheryl) Criswell of Mt. Gilead, and daughter
Denise Criswell of Marion; grandchildren Ryan (Erica) Criswell and Brad Criswell;
great-grandchildren Gretchen, Julianne, Cole; and sister-in-law Veda Williams.
In addition to her parents, Betty was preceded in death by brothers, Robert Williams, William
Williams and sister-in-law Darlene Williams.
Friends and family are invited to attend the visitation on Sunday, September 15, 2024, 5-8 p.m.
at the Boyd Funeral Home in Marion. A graveside service will be held Monday, September 16,
2024, at 10:00 a.m. at the Claridon Township Cemetery, with Pastor Joshua Freshour officiating.
Donations in lieu of flowers can be made to the Kingston Residence Memory Care Unit Activity Fund.
