Betty J. (Patterson) Monroe, age 96, passed away at the Kingston Residence of Marion, on February 23, 2025. Betty was born to the late Evan and Essie Patterson in Alto Pass, Il., on May 7, 1928. After the passing of Betty’s first husband Edward J. Martin, she married Holly Wilber Monroe in Edwardsville, Illinois on October 7, 1967. They had many wonderful years together until his passing on January 5, 2012. Betty worked as an X-Ray technician for 20 years until she married Holly and made the transition into being a homemaker.

Her marriage to Holly Monroe led Betty on a wonderful journey. Holly was a Military man and took Betty all over the world to include Guam, Okinawa, the United Kingdom and across the United States. Betty was a wonderful Pie maker and due to her travels, her pies became known throughout the world. In her younger days Betty discovered that she could sing and would often sing at night clubs in St. Louis, even being apart of several stage productions in the city before her husband had to move her to Mansfield, Ohio. Betty was known to sing songs made famous by popular singers in the “Rat Pack” genre but was most known for her renditions of classic Nat King Cole standards. Upon finding the Lord Betty went from entertaining people in nightclubs to helping her
church’s choir. Betty also loved to sew and garden.
