Carlisle Rife Jr. Obituary

Carlisle Edward Rife Jr., age 81, passed away at Marion General Hospital on January 19, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. Born on July 5, 1944, in Greenup County, Kentucky, he was the son of the late Carlisle E. Sr. and Eunice (Winifred) Rife.

Carlisle grew up in Brush Ridge, Ohio, and was a proud 1962 graduate of Ridgedale High School. On January 26, 1968, he married the love of his life, Sharon Jividen. Together, they built a life centered on family and devotion, remaining inseparable until her passing in 2023.

A man defined by his work ethic and technical skill, Carlisle dedicated over 35 years to GTE/Verizon as a cable splicer and facilities locator. His passion for his profession extended well into his "retirement" years; he returned as a contractor, managing the construction of vital cable and fiber optic infrastructure during the rapid development between Delaware and Columbus. He finally hung up his hard hat at the age of 75, leaving behind a tangible legacy in the regional infrastructure he helped build.

Beyond his professional life, Carlisle found great purpose in researching his family’s genealogy, preserving the history of the lineage he loved so dearly. While he didn't lean into traditional hobbies, his true joy was found in his role as a provider and a host. He was happiest when the grill was hot and his yard was full of family, hosting countless cookouts and gatherings just to be in their company.

His memory will be cherished by his son, Carlisle “Pete” Rife III; his daughter, Renee (Gregory) Farlee; and his sisters, Debbie Mincey and Donna Caskey. He also leaves behind five grandchildren, Addison and Kendra Farlee, Maci Payne, Isaac Rife, and Abbie Haycox; nine great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Carlisle was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Sharon; and his sisters, Carolyn Breitigam, Lela Williams, and Phyllis Throckmorton.
