Clara Carter Obituary

Clara M. Carter, age 83 of Marion, passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Marion General Hospital. On November 26, 1940, she was born in Arcola, Mississippi, to the late William and Ollie (Brown) Myles, Sr., and on December 23, 1959, she married her late husband, Charles Carter, Sr.

Clara moved to Marion, Ohio in December 1968 in pursuit of a better life for her children. She joined Peace Baptist Church which later became Christ Missionary Baptist Church, where she was the Church Mother. She medically retired from The Whirlpool Corporation in 1994 and became the Carter Clan babysitter.

Clara’s legacy will live on through her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, many many nieces, nephews, and friends.

She is survived by her four sons, Charles (Helen) Jr., Sam (Stacy), Jerry (Denise), Delandry (Deanna) Carter, her three daughters, Debra (Keith) Gibson, Daphne (Tommy) Carmichael, and Glenda (Willie) Troutman. Her 21 grandchildren; Marci, Shamon, Ieshea, Ebony, Jahmelia, Erica, Ashley, John III, Sade, Jasmin, Charles III, Chelsea, Shiloh Sr., Daphne Jr., Symon, Jordan, Tyra, Malik, Adrianne, Kobe, and Delandry Jr. Her 36 great grandchildren; Chaniya, Jayden, Donovan, Mackenzie, Aamiere, Kiya, Zhane, Willie, Shiaunna, Cayden, Asiaunna, Destiny, Dani-ella, Jayla, Shiloh Jr., Ryleigh, Shaukoyre, Wyatt, Serenity, Blake, Julian, Jeremiah, Michael Jr., Eliah, Zion, Kailo, Jordyn, Jesse, Haki, Jacee, Onyx, Asher, Billion, Jaja, Myles, and Navy. Her Sister/Niece Dorothy Downing.

She was preceded in death by her husband Charles Carter, Sr.; her son Cleotha Jr.; her parents William and Ollie Myles, Sr.; her sisters Sophronia Johnson, Lovell Brown, Josephine Myles, Sophia Myles, and Lena Myles; and her brothers Mitchell Tyler, William Myles, Jr., Eddie Myles, Johnnie Myles, Sr., and Jimmie Myles, Sr.

Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 18, 2024, from 11 am to 12 pm at Christ Missionary Baptist Church, 394 Fairview St., Marion. Services will take place at 12 pm at the church. Burial will follow at Marion Cemetery.
