Craig Lee Willis, age 81 of Marion passed away peacefully surrounded by family Monday, February 5, 2024. He was born in Marion County on June 5, 1942 to Cliff and Evelyn(Curren) Willis who preceded Craig in death.
Craig was a devoted Christian, husband and father and grandfather. His whole life centered around God and family. He was loved by all and loved to share stories of his grandchildren and great grandsons with anyone who would listen.
On May 2, 1964 Craig married Diane Hull Willis. She preceded him in death in August of 2023. Craig and Diane had many travel and business adventures in their 59 years of marriage.
Craig is survived by his two children, Scott (Margaret) Willis of Bothell, Washington and Laura (Donald) Rengert of Waldo, Ohio, two grandchildren, Courtney (Dylan) Kelley of Marion, Ohio and Wesley (Adison) Rengert of Marietta, Ga. Craig is also survived by two great grandsons, Carter Raymond and Hayes Lee Kelley, Marion, OH. His brother Tim Willis resides in Grove City, OH.
Right out of Harding High School in 1960, Craig joined the army and served for two years, where he was a paratrooper. He loved to tell his children and grandchildren stories of jumping out of airplanes.
Craig served the city of Marion as a Marion City Firefighter for 25 years. While serving on the department, Craig helped start Safety City by writing the fire curriculum. He found much joy in talking with students about fire safety. One of his favorite things to do was visit his daughter Laura’s kindergarten classroom and talk with her students about fire safety.
Craig liked to travel with his wife and family over the years. He and Diane took many adventures together as they explored the world. Together they went on mission trips, worked church camp, and served Christ and others in many ways.
