Daniel "Dan" Thomas Murphy passed away on Sunday, August 22, 2021 at the age of 72. His heroic 3.5-year battle showed his courage in facing cancer with a smile.
Despite the pain, Dan stayed strong and positive until the end. His last answer to the question, “How are you doing?” was "I'm good."
Dan met the love of his life, Agnes, at Frisch's Big Boy. They celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary this year. Together, they had one child: Penny.
He was a diehard OSU football fan. Penny attended and graduated from OSU and now works in the Athletic Department (at OSU football games) because of her fond memories of watching OSU football with her dad. One of his most prize possessions was a photo Agnes took of Dan and Penny with Brutus at the Covelli Center at OSU. He showed all the doctors and nurses at the James Cancer Hospital this photo, which he always kept visible on his phone.
Dan worked at Eaton Forge Division for 40 years. He spent most of that time in the Tool and Die shop doing trigonometry in his head.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society or the Urban and Shelley Meyer Fund for Cancer Research at the James Cancer Hospital.
