Daniel Robert Russell entered the loving arms of Jesus on May 11th after a long but humble and courageous battle against cancer. More than anything, Dan loved his family. His wife Lindsay and his three kids, Emmett (12), Wyatt(9), and Evie(3) were his pride and joy.
Dan was born to Dolly and Jim Russell on November 28, 1982. He is survived by his wife and children, parents and siblings, Mindy Braun (Cameron), Tom Russell (Joy) and Allison Spaulding (Ross), 10 nieces and nephews, in-laws Tracy and Becky Cooper and sister-in-law Lacy Brown (Adam).
Dan prided himself in his work as a nurse. He worked as an RN at Mt. Carmel East Hospital for 6 years and then found his calling at Nationwide Children’s where he fell in love working in the pediatric ICU. He was a respected and admired nurse by both co-workers and patients for 8 years. He was recognized and will be remembered for his compassionate and caring work ethic.
Dan always had a compassionate heart and an adventurous spirit. He was very passionate about his hobbies and interests and enjoyed sharing about them in detail to anyone who would listen. Dan’s first love was his family and his second was the outdoors. When Dan loved something he talked about it non-stop, particularly about fishing. He spent many hours waterside, his most memorable catch being a sting ray in Gulf Shores, Alabama in which he got stung by the stingray and always said that was the worst pain he had ever felt regardless of everything he had been through! When he wasn’t trying to hook the next big catch, he was cheering on OSU or the Bengals, hosting 4th of July fireworks and introducing us all to an extravagant new food.
Dan was an avid lover of Legos since he was a young boy. His children picked up that love and had numerous sets on display in their home. He and his son recently completed a small version of the Millennium Falcon while he was in the hospital. He even bought Lego flowers as gifts for Lindsay which she’ll treasure.
Dan is preceded in death by his grandparents, Bill and Alice Meginness and Loraine and Gerry Russell, his aunt, Billie Starner, and uncles, Ken and Don Russell and his niece, Marlow Braun.
To celebrate Dan’s remarkable life, we will gather on June 2nd at Dayspring Wesleyan Church at 2pm followed by a reception.
