David "Dave" Bowling Obituary

David W. “Dave” Bowling, 80, of Green Camp, passed on to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, Monday June 15, 2026, following a brief illness. Dave was born in Marion on July 14, 1945, to Finley and Brook Bowling, who preceded him in death.

Dave grew up just outside of Green Camp and remained a lifelong Green Camp resident. He was a 1963 Elgin High School graduate, and following graduation went to work at Eaton Corp. On May 22, 1965, Dave married Charlene Walkins (formerly of Bucyrus) and they were married for 61 years.

At Eaton, Dave was a forge helper until he retired after 37 years. Though the work was physically taxing and dirty, he was a dedicated employee. Dave rarely missed a day of work and even made an attempt to go in during the Blizzard of ’78!

In his younger days, Dave spent countless hours working on T.V.’s with his dad at the little T.V. store in Green Camp. All the locals knew who to call when a T.V. needed repaired or a “picture tube went out” and he made numerous service calls to help out his friends. Dave enjoyed taking things apart to see how they worked--everything from car engines to pocket watches--and was always able to put them back together. He was very talented and could fix anything!

Dave was a cat lover, and he had many pets over the years. He grew very attached to each and every one, most especially to his buddy, Dewey.

Back in the day, Dave enjoyed a big bowl of ice cream from the Green Camp Dairy Bar, and he also really liked his pizza. Dave spent many an evening at the Berwick in Green Camp, visiting with friends. In later years, he was a faithful attendee of services at Green Camp United Methodist Church and had many friends there.

Dave had a playful sense of humor, and due to his antics was dubbed “Colo” by his brother Charles. And if he knew you and liked you, he most certainly called you “pilgrim” at some point.

Dave will be missed by his wife, Charlene, of Green Camp, his daughter, Sheila (Joe) Campbell of Marion, and his son, Michael Bowling of Richwood. He will also be missed by his brothers, Melvin (Joyce) Bowling and Doug Bowling, his sister-in-law, Charlotte, and his very special lifelong friend, Jim Ault.

In addition to his parents, Dave was preceded in death by his brother, Charles (Charlotte) Bowling. Dave also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, brothers, and sisters-in-law.

To honor Dave’s final wishes, a simple graveside service will be held on Friday, June 19, 2026, at 10 a.m. in Green Camp Cemetery, with Roger Ruth officiating. Condolences can be sent to the David R. Aiken Broadcast Media Complex at 1282 N. Main Street, Marion, OH, in his memory.
