Debra Scott Obituary

Debra B. Scott, 63, passed away peacefully on August 25, 2025, at Unger Park Post Acute. She was born September 24, 1961, in Inverness, Mississippi, to the late Willie Turner and Annie Lee Turner.

On July 28, 2001, Debra married her beloved husband, William Scott Jr., in Marion, Ohio. Together, they shared 24 wonderful years of marriage. She worked for more than a decade as a case manager at North Central Correctional Institution, where she touched many lives.

Debra was a woman of faith who became an ordained minister and continuously spread the word. She was also a lifelong learner and a highly educated woman. She earned an Associate of Arts degree, a Bachelor of Science in Criminal Justice, and was pursuing her Doctorate of Divinity before she passed. Known for her “gift of gab,” Debra never shied away from voicing her opinion—and she did so boldly and unapologetically.

She found joy in the simple things: watching her favorite TV shows, keeping up with the news (especially MSNBC), and relaxing with the Game Show Network. Debra loved good BBQ, but her sweet tooth made her especially fond of doughnuts, pies, Klondike Bars, and, above all, Blue Mountain Dew.

Her true passion, however, was ministry. Debra founded "Possessed to be Blessed," a ministry that embodied the way she lived her life. She believed deeply in serving others and helping wherever she could. If Debra didn’t have something you needed, she would go out of her way to find it for you.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Willie and Annie Lee Turner; her brothers Joe Dean, Ed Dean, and Mack Cox; her sister Maxine Cox; and her son Joe LeSherwin Dean.

She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, William Scott Jr.; her children, William Scott III, Jason (Lecticia) Scott, Otis (Brandi) Scott, Nastassia (Ned) Curtis, Latonya Scott, Danitia Snow, and Elizabeth (Bruce) Whiteside; her brothers Johnnie Dean and Frankie Cox; her sisters Irene Horton and Diana Dean; her grandchildren Jakeria Scott, Jakevia Scott, Jo’Marrion Scott, Jayceon Jones, a host of other grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She also lovingly raised three bonus children—Phillip Cox, Brandy Davis, and Dave Davis, the children of her late sister Maxine.

Debra was blessed with many friends but especially treasured the lifelong bonds she shared with her two best friends, Annie Parks and Polly Sease.

Her legacy of faith, love, and service will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
