Dorothy Lois Hughes, age 81, of Marion, OH., passed away at her residence, on December 8, 2025. Dorothy was born in New Bloomington, OH., to the late Claude Dessie and Maude Dorothy (McKim) Persinger, on October 7, 1944.
Dorothy attended Harding High School and graduated from La Rue High School. She worked as an administrative assistant for GTE for over 20 years, and was a devoted member of Oakland United Methodist Church. Dorothy loved to read books. Her favorite books were “A Tree Grows in Brooklyn” by Betty Smith, and “A Girl of the Limberlost” by Gene Stratton-Porter. Dorothy also loved to collect antiques. This hobby inspired her to start “Three Sisters Antiques” stand in New Philadelphia, OH with her sisters Geneva and Shirley. Many of the items collected for their stand were discovered during her garage saleing adventures. She developed a keen eye for items of value and would stop at every sale she came across. As she got older, her favorite things became spending time with her grandchildren and her much- loved cats Tigger and Astor.
Left to cherish Dorothy’s memory are daughters, Kathryn Kim (Stephen) (Hughes) Gilbert, and Carolyn Marie Hughes, brother Bill Persinger, sister Shirley Scheitler, grandchildren Tristan Weiss and Megan Carey, and great-grand children Maddelyn Mitchell and Landon Mitchell, along with many nieces and nephews.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Donald Hughes, her parents, and 13 siblings.
Family and friends are invited to the visitation of Dorothy on Thursday 11, 2025 from 10am until 11am at the Boyd Funeral Home. The funeral service will start at 12pm with Chaplain Seeyong Lee officiating. The committal service will take place at the Marion Cemetery immediately following the funeral procession.
