Dorothy Wood Obituary

Dorothy Ann Wood nee Smith formerly of Hicksville & West Babylon, NY, Laurelville, OH and most recently Marion, OH passed away peacefully on January 3, 2021.

Born in Flushing, NY, the daughter of John & Helen Smith, Dorothy was preceded in death by her parents, her Beloved husband Kenneth John Wood, Mother in law Irene Frick Wood, sister Barbara DiGregorio and too many cherished family and friends to name.

Dorothy met and married the love of her life, Kenneth, in 1952 and together they raised four children, CINDY & Mark McGuire, KENNETH & Kathleen Wood, CAROL & Christopher Reilly and SUSAN & Daniel Coffey. Dot & Ken's remarkable love story now lives on through their children, fourteen Grandchildren and sixteen Great-Grandchildren. All of who were treasured beyond measure along with nieces and nephews that they adored.

An accomplished quilter Dot enjoyed bird watching, traveling and countless adventures camping here and abroad. She participated in a variety of clubs and treasured the many friends she made through each. Through Cooperative Extension Dot & Ken's creativity shined in the elaborate costumes and sets they designed and built with their cousins and sisters. Their skits were legendary and won first place in many shows over the years.

Their combined creativity was showcased in their dream cabin in Hocking Hills and a testament to the depth of their love for each other. Intricate carvings and woodworking by Ken was complimented by the baskets and quilts by Mom and all was a labor of love. We are so fortunate and grateful to them for raising strong, self-sufficient children and instilling in us the value of family and what it means to be loved.

A celebration of Dorothy's life will be held at a later date. Should you wish, a charitable donation can be made to the National Park Foundation, Ohio Bird Sanctuary (www.ohiobirdsanctuary.com), K9 For Warriors (www.k9sforwarriors.org),  Leave No Trace (www.LNT.org), Saint Jude (www.stjude.org), Woodworkers of Central Ohio or a charity of one's choice.
