Earnest Robinson Obituary

Earnest Edward Robinson
2.8.1945 - 5.20.2024
Earnest Edward Robinson age 79, of Marion, Ohio passed away peacefully on May 20, 2024.

Earnest was born on February 8th, 1945 in Courtland, Alabama - a birthday he shares with his oldest sister. The sixth born of seven children, Earnest moved to Marion, Ohio with his family in 1953 at the age of 8. While growing up on the Westside of Marion, he blossomed into an amazing athlete, leading his team as the first black quarterback at Marion Harding High School and being recruited to play his true love, baseball at the professional level upon graduation. Earnest’s esteemed accomplishments as an athlete earned him an induction to the Athletic Hall of Fame at his alma mater. As amazing as he was as an athlete, his athleticism was no competition to the vastness of his intellect. He continued his studies at Ohio University and ended up earning his Bachelor of Arts in Social Work (BASW) from The Ohio State University - graduating Summa Cum Laude. Earnest also served his country as Military Police in the Air Force during the Vietnam War. At the age of 26 he tragically lost his sight in a car accident but quickly adjusted to his new normal by learning how to navigate his day-to-day life in the hustle and bustle of living in New York. Through surgeries and medical miracles, Earnest eventually regained partial sight in his right eye which led to him wearing his signature glasses going forward. In the mid 70’s, Earnest met Linda and surely charmed by his humor, charisma and handsomeness, the two married in 1978 and had a daughter. Earnest was a welcoming soul with a heart for inclusiveness and served his community via the Multicultural Club at OSUM and through the brotherhood of Medgar Evers Elks.

He is preceded in death by his father, Jack Robinson Sr., his mother Willie Lou (Smith) Robinson, his ex-wife, Linda (Fillhart), his brothers Jack Robinson Jr., LC Robinson, and Angrus Robinson, his sisters Ola Mae “Top Sarge” (Robinson) Huston, Josephine Thompson, and Emma Sue (Robinson) Thompson, his beloved niece Geraldine Sims and his grandchildren Linda Alicia Jones, Montgomery Allen Jones and Rainbow Jones.

Earnest’s legacy lives on through his daughter Shawn La’Vista (Robinson) Jones (m. Stewart A. Jones) and his grandson and namesake Aiden Edward Wallace Jones. He is also survived by a host of nieces, nephews and cousins. Earnest was a beloved Daddy, Granddaddy and Uncle and will be greatly missed by those he leaves behind.
