Edward Dewey McElroy, age 82 of Marion, passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, June 30, 2021 at home.
Ed was born on January 28, 1939 to the late Edward W. and Margaret (Plummer) McElroy in Marion, Ohio. He graduated from Green Camp High School in 1957. On November 28, 1959, he married Lulu Belle Ellis in Green Camp. They were married until her passing on October 18, 1985. God blessed Ed and family again on October 28, 1988, when he married Rebecca “Becky” Lyon in Marion, Ohio.
At the age of 17, Ed became a dedicated employee of the Erie Lackawanna/CSX/Conrail Railroad. He was a member of the Transportation and Communications Union (TCU) and retired after 43 years.
Ed was a life-long sports fan. He enjoyed watching football, basketball, baseball or racing. He loved attending the events of his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ed had a passion for fishing. He was a skilled fisherman and loved fishing the waters of Gowganda Lake, Ontario, Canada.
Ed was preceded in death by his parents; his brother: Robert McElroy and his sister and brother-in-law: Suzanne and Ronald Garver.
Along with his wife, Becky, those who will cherish Ed’s memory include: his daughter: Debra (Patrick Paykoff) of Lewis Center, Ohio, and his son: Brian (Cris) McElroy of Prospect, Ohio; his step-daughter: Karen Beers of Waldo, Ohio, his stepson: Kevin Beers of Waldo, Ohio; his four grandchildren: Layne (Aubree) McElroy of Marion, Corey and Riley McElroy of Prospect, Sheridan Paykoff of Lewis Center; his three step-grandchildren: Bo (Krista) Smith of Marion, Blair (Nick) Rowland of Marion, and Bayley Beers of Marion; his five step-great grandchildren: Carson and Chase Smith; Sable, Saul and Rossi Rowland; many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family may come to honor Ed’s life on Tuesday, July 6, 2021 from 4pm to 7pm at the Boyd Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, 7, 2021 starting at 11am at the funeral home. Burial will follow service at the Green Camp Cemetery.
