Gary Shifflet Obituary

Gary Alan Shifflet, 64, of Marion, Ohio, passed away suddenly with post-covid complications, on Monday, September 6, 2021, at Marion General Hospital with his loving wife and son by his side. He was born on July 11, 1957, in Marion, Ohio, to James and Fairy (Atha) Shifflet. Gary married his devoted wife, Linda (Dahlen), on November 23, 1976, and together they shared their lives for 45 years. They have a son, James (Jimmy) W. Shifflet, of Marion, who survives. Jimmy was the apple of his father's eye.

He will be lovingly remembered by his sister, Sharon (Stan Fees) Shifflet of Delaware, nephews and niece Christopher (Charlotte) Thomas of Columbus, Robynn (Matt Moore) Spicer of Richwood, Matthew (Katie) Oliver of Grove City, Adam (Nickie) Oliver of Prospect, great nieces and nephews Austin (Katie Wagner) Spicer of Stockport, OH, Aubree Spicer of Richwood, Skylar, Devin and Derek Seitz of Columbus, Zoey and Evelyn Oliver of Grove City, Ruby Oliver of Prospect and Mason and Emma Dunn of Grove City. Aunts and uncles, Francis (Carol) Shifflet of West Jefferson, OH, Jack (Shirley) Atha of Tempe, AZ and Janet (Bill) Thomas of Marion. 

Gary was predeceased by his parents, James and Fairy Shifflet and his sister, Jeanne (Shifflet) Oliver. Gary's father passed away just 24 days before him. A graduate of the Ridgedale class of 1975, Morral, Ohio, he immediately enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he served for 10 years. His rank was Staff Sergeant and he was a very proud veteran. He lived in the Phillipines, Texas and Las Vegas before moving back to Marion in 2016 to help care for his Mother. Gary loved playing baseball as a youngster with the Marion Baseball for Youth. He marched in the Marion Cadets Drum and Bugle Corps, where he played the soprano horn. He was a drummer with the Ridgedale High School Pep Band. In addition to his membership to the Marion Moose Lodge 880, he enjoyed fishing and traveling with his wife. He was a die-hard Nascar fan and an expert in almost anything electronic. Following his heart with his love for working on electronics, Gary was a Senior Systems Engineer at DVS Technologies LLC. His work family included Russ Goeckner and Nikki Pioselli, who were very close, along with many of his friends and colleagues.

Since 1968, he was a member of the Fairpark Community Baptist church. Friends and family will be welcomed at his viewing Monday, September 13, from 10-11 at Boyd-Born Funeral Home, 122 W.Columbia St., Marion, Ohio, and funeral services to follow immediately after the viewing. A private burial will be held at a later date. Gary's family would like to thank everyone known and unknown for their thoughts and prayers. Your kindness will never be forgotten. Thank you Pastor David Rush of the Fairpark Community Baptist church for your guidance and comfort. We have peace in knowing that Gary is with his Lord, his parents and his younger sister.
