Larry lived for many years in Missouri and Illinois. In 1942, he graduated from Westport High School in Kansas City, Missouri, and he enrolled in the Ohio State University that same year because of the persuasion of his uncle Manly Whitcomb, who was band director at Ohio State University, to come to Ohio to attend school. He then entered the U.S.Army in February of 1943 and was discharged in February of 1946, spending his time serving as a radio operator. He reentered the Ohio State University in 1946, a member of Delta Tau Delta, and graduated in 1949 with a degree in business.
In 1947, he married Esther Clifton in Columbus, Ohio, and in January of 1960, she passed away. He then married Mary Kohbarger Fetter in April of 1961 and she survives in Marion.
Larry came to Marion in 1951 with a dealership from Canal Winchester, and he operated Larry Rainier Motors Plymouth Desoto Dealership. He later sold used cars, and then he went on to work for Mathews Kennedy Ford. Larry spent two years at Swink Advertising before going back to Mathews Ford, and then he left to concentrate on his antiques business at Peddlers Corner and various flea markets.
He was a member of the VA, Masons, and American Legion.
Larry is survived by his children Harold H. (Debra) Rainier III of Marion, John Michael (Linda) Fetter of Buffalo, NY, and Robert S. (Barb) Rainier of Caledonia; his grandchildren Aaron (Andrea) Rainier of Denver, Colorado, Kurt (Jessica) Fetter of Buffalo, NY, Christopher (Elizabeth) Fetter of Buffalo, NY, Jaclyn (Yohan) Ahn of Peoria, Illinois, Rebecca (Tom) Carpenter of Columbus, Brittany (Darrel) Dowler of Caledonia, Bradley Rainier of Caledonia, and Christine (Doug) Moore of Galena; and his seven great-grandchildren.
