James Earl McGee Sr., age 84, passed away at Marion General Hospital on Wednesday, May 21, 2025. James was born on June 22, 1940, in Hammond, Louisiana to the Late Cecil and Eloise (Berett) McGee. James would marry the love of his life, Christine Jones, in Marion, Ohio, on October 27, 1975, and they enjoyed 50 years of marriage. James worked as an assembler for Honda for 25 years before he retired.
James was a man of great kindness and immense generosity. He was a mentor who was full of wisdom and wit. He was always ready and willing to lend a helping hand. He was a man of unwavering faith. He loved GOD and his family unconditionally.
James was an awesome warrior. He battled his illness courageously for an extended period of time. During that time, he was provided comfort care by his devoted wife Christine and his faithful nephew Michael “Mick” Williams.
James was a strong Christian man and was very involved with the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Marion. James was a deacon at Mt. Zion as well as spending several years as the church’s treasurer. James loved working in the yard around his house and since he considered the Lord’s house to be his as well, he took meticulous care of the church grounds.
James’ other passion was his love of cars as well as watching Westerns, Perry Mason and Football.
James is preceded in death by parents, brothers, Thomas, Charlie, Lee and Charles, sisters, Wille Mae Randall, Angela Jones and Barbara Ann McGee-Craig, and daughter Terri Dozier.
Left to cherish the memory of James are his loving wife Christine, sons, James Earl (Jr.), Anthony, Johnny Ray and Cecil McGee, daughter Sharvon Davis, along with a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Friends and family are called to the wake of James Earl McGee, Sr., Wednesday, May 28, 2025, at the Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church from 5pm until 8pm. The Celebration of Life for James with be held the following day, May 29, 2025, at 11am also at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church with Bishop Gregory Draper officiating. There will be an Internment service at The Marion Cemetery following the Funeral Service.
