James Loy Withrow, who worked as a professional engineer in life, passed away on June 23, 2024 at 10:20pm. He was 86 years old.
James was born at a residence on Ground Hog Pike in Marion County, Ohio, on December 24, 1937, to the late Oliver Ray Withrow and Iscah Del Metz.
He married Mary Margo McNaughton on September 4, 1960, and she survives. He is also survived by his daughters Jennifer (James) Hiles, Lora (Rusty) Rahe, and Amy Withrow (Kelley Engle). He had two sisters, Betty (Walter) McClaskey and Kate Withrow, both deceased, and a brother, Norman (Mary Ellen) Withrow, also deceased.
He has nine grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
He graduated from New Bloomington High School. He received a five-year degree in chemical engineering from The Ohio State University.
He was employed by the National Lime & Stone Company for 38 years and retired as the Director of Laboratory & Research. During his career, he served as chairman of the environmental committee for the National Crushed Stone Association, a member of the technical committee of the National Lime Association, and several technical committees for the American Society for Testing and Materials.
James was a man who never tired of learning and had many hobbies including golfing, fishing, photography, woodworking, sailing, cross stitch, beekeeping, and chair caning. He was a loving husband and father and will be greatly missed.
