Jim Compton

James “Jim” Compton, age 84 of Marion, passed away on Tuesday, May 24, 2022 at Presidential Center. He was born on April 13, 1938 to the late William and Lula (Hurt) Compton.

Jim worked most recently for White Mule here in Marion, but he was employed with Central Soya for many years before that. He also spent time as a motion picture projectionist at local drive-ins, and he was a self-taught computer whiz. He was a golfer, a bowler, and a past member of the Moose. He enjoyed motorcycles and working with his hands, and he truly loved having kids around, especially his grandchildren.

He is survived by his sons Dave (Julie George) Compton, Kevin (Lori) Compton, and Jeff (Teri) Compton; his daughter Joan (Tod) Markley; his brother Bill; his sisters Vernice, Jane, and Kathy; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents William and Lula, his infant daughter Sharon Louise, and his sister Bernice.

Family and friends may gather in Jim’s memory on Wednesday, June 1, 2022 from 10 am to 11 am at the Boyd Funeral Home. A memorial service will follow at 11 am at the funeral home. Burial will take place at a later date at Grand Prairie Cemetery.
