Joseph Henry Johns age 87, passed away peacefully at the Marion General Hospital on December 17th, 2025. Joseph was born on August 16, 1938, to his late parents Virgil and Anna D (McCalla) Johns in Huntsville Ohio.
Joe graduated from Huntsville High School. Soon after graduation he enlisted in the United States Navy where he proudly served his country. While stationed in New York, he met the love of his life Helen Irene (Wernersbach) Johns. They were married for over 50 years before Helen passed away on July 30, 2013. After they were married, they moved to Bellefontaine OH where they started their family. Joe worked at Rockwell Industries, The Marion Power Shovel, Richardsons Machine and then started his own company JJ Machine Shop. Joe was very mechanically inclined, there wasn't much he could not fix. He loved woodworking and building and designing his projects. Joe loved to watch The Ohio State Buckeyes and would often call to tease his granddaughter when they played Michigan. He was always interested in cars, Nascar and going to the Larue OH track to watch his son race. He even took his own truck down the track for the first time there. His other love was fishing, he and his brother Harold would spend hours fishing and talking. They were two peas in a pod. Joe never met a stranger, he was always up for a good conversation (argument) with anyone.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents, wife, brothers, Harold (Linda) Johns and Richard (Denise) Johns, and his daughter-in-law, Cherri James.
Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Joseph H. (Denise) Johns, Jr. and Jim Johns, daughters, Anne Johns and Becky (Steven) Hughes. Brothers, David (Susan) Johns and Carl Johns, his 14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
The Johns family would like to invite Joseph’s loved ones and friends to celebrate his life and legacy at the Boyd Funeral Home on Sunday, December 21, 2025, for calling hours from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The memorial service will start at 3 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to help the family in their time of need.
