Joseph E. Johnston

Joe was born in Rio Grande, Ohio to Norwood Utter Johnston and Lois Evans Johnston; he was the sixth of eight children. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings; brothers Norwood “Nor”, John William “Bill”, Daniel “Dan”, Robert “Bob”, Richard “Dick”, Steve, and his sister Harriet Lenhart.

        He is survived by sisters-in-law Ruth, Vickie, and Barbara “Barb” Johnston, many nieces and nephews (including his special, favorite nephew, David “Davey” Johnston),  great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews.

        Joe is also survived by his “extra special family” -  his caregivers of many happy years, Tiffany Foreman and Misty Butler.  They took exceptional care of him, showering him with love and attention, allowing him to live a long and fulfilling life -  and he loved them dearly.  The family is extremely grateful to them for enhancing Joe’s quality of life.

        He is further survived by special friends Mike and Shelli Micheli, who included him in many fun activities and made him “part owner and manager” of their recent business.

          Joe was a simple man who loved family, friends, pretty girls, firetrucks, car rides, salad, donuts, cheeseburgers and pizza with Fritos on top.  Joe worked at MARCA Industries for many years and was overjoyed when he retired.  

He was a blessing to his family and all who knew him. He was funny and ornery with his “Mrs. Donkey” name-calling,  voice changes, finger pointing and "There's a ghost behind you” antics…all done with a twinkle in his eye and an unforgettable laugh.  Joe is already missed.

Calling hours are on Friday, October 24, 2025, at the Boyd Funeral Home from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will start at 1 p.m. and there will be an interment service immediately following the service at the Chapel Heights Memorial Garden.
