Leona "Lee" Marlene VanVoorhis

Leona “Lee” Marlene VanVoorhis, age 83 of Marion, passed away on Thursday, November 17, 2022, surrounded by family and her special friends at the Marion Manor.

Lee was born on March 18, 1939 to the late John and Beatrice (O’ Connell) Belt in Marion, Ohio.  On September 5, 1959, she married Ernie VanVoorhis in Marion, Ohio.

Over the years she belonged to the Church of the Nazarene, in both Caledonia and Marion. While in Caledonia she served as the song leader and was very active in the church. She was always sharing the love of Jesus with whomever she met.

Lee was a homemaker and will be fondly remembered for her amazing cooking and baking, all the while, singing and whistling hymns as she went about her daily routine. She was also known throughout the community as the “Avon Lady”.  Later she worked as a hostess for McDonald’s for more than 10 years.  Lee will truly be missed by family and friends.

Lee was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers: Paul Belt, Bob Belt, Pete Belt and Don Belt and her sister, Margaret Moore.

Those who will cherish her memories include her husband of 63 years, Ernie VanVoorhis of Marion, Ohio; her daughter, Tina Burns of Columbus, Ohio; her sons: Tim (Wanda) VanVoorhis of Marysville, Ohio and Todd (Danette) VanVoorhis of Waldo, Ohio, her brothers: Larry (Sylvia) Belt of Knoxville, Tennessee, Chuck (Alice) Belt of Fountain Hills, Arizona and Harold (Joyce) Belt of Canal Winchester, Ohio; her grandchildren: Tim, Heidi, Ashlee, Sarah, Micah, Cody and Emilee and six great grandchildren.

Friends and family may come to honor Lee’s life from 11am to 1pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2022 at the Boyd Funeral Home.  A funeral service will follow starting at 1pm at the funeral home.  Burial will follow funeral service at the Marion Cemetery.  Donations may be given in Lee’s memory to the Alzheimer’s Association, Central Ohio Chapter, 1379 Dublin Road
