Obituary: Lewis Neil Smith (October 22nd 1932 - March 10th 2026)
Lewis Neil Smith, 93, of Marion was called home on Tuesday, March 10th, 2026 at Marion General Hospital surrounded by family and friends. Lewis was born in Sandusky, Ohio on October 22nd 1932 and Raised in Delaware, Ohio. Lewis was born to the late Glenn Lee Smith and Violet Dickerson-Smith. Lewis graduated at Franklin B Willis High School in Delaware, Ohio in 1954 where he participated in basketball & football. After graduating, Lewis went into the Air Force for 4 years and Served in the medical field.
Lewis worked at Whirlpool Corporation in Marion for over 30 years. Lewis got married to his longtime friend, the late Nina Jewel Blain, in 1992. In their marriage they had 4 wonderful children; Mildred Williams, Vicki McGary, Patricia (Dayle) Henderson and Tim (Truby) Sams.
Lewis was blessed with 3 grandchildren; Zachary McGary, Tim (Molly) Sams & Jennifer (Kyle) Stover. He was blessed with 11 great grandchildren; Aunaycia Deas-McGary, Shelly Fuller, Zavier McGary, Lil Zachary McGary, Zaden McGary, Haleigh Stover, Samantha Stover, Matthew Stover, Jackson Sams, Riley Sams & Lennix Sams. He was also blessed with 2 great-great grandchildren, Harmony Deas-McGary & Zeilani McGary.
Lewis is the second child out of 10 siblings: Evelyn Banks, Floyd (Betty) Smith, Dorothy Robinson, Charles Smith, James Smith, Eugene Smith, Buela Smith, Melba Simpson, and surviving sibling, Frances Smith-Wright, and a host of nieces, nephews & cousins.
Special friends; Layne, Tiny Braddy and His barber, Mr. Mathis. Lewis enjoyed cooking potato salad and Spaghetti for his family, hearing mama Burks sing from the Mississippi Mass choir, and listening to blues music. He enjoyed watching Serena & Venus Williams in tennis, The Cleveland Browns and Ohio State football. He enjoyed watching boxing and Tiger woods in golfing. He was also an avid bowler.
Lewis was predeceased in death by his parents, Glenn Lee Smith & Violet Dickerson-Smith. His wife, Nina Jewel Blain. His 2 children; Robert & Ricky. His siblings; Evelyn Banks, Floyd Smith, Dorothy Robinson, Charles Smith, James Smith, Eugene Smith, Buela Smith & Melba Simpson. His son in love, Bill Williams!
