Celebrating the Life of Lois Naomi Shaffer
September 13, 1930 – May 28, 2026
Lois Naomi (Murray) Shaffer, a lifelong resident of Marion, Ohio, passed away peacefully at the age of 95 on May 28, 2026. Lois was born September 13, 1930 to her parents Wayne and Faye (Brown) Murray. Lois married Neil E. Shaffer on May 15, 1949. They were married for over 63 years.
Lois was known for her strong work ethic, gentle spirit, and dedication to her family. She was a truly wonderful person. Lois was a member of the Marion 1st Church of the Nazarene and graduate of Marion Harding High School. She spent 13 years working for GTE, where she made lasting friendships and was respected by her colleagues. Later in life, she brought her warmth and characteristic kindness to the Cozad’s Hallmark store at the local mall. It was a role she truly enjoyed, as it allowed her to do what she did best: help others celebrate life’s special moments.
Lois was preceded in death by her beloved husband of many years, Neil E., as well as her daughter, Deby Shaffer, and her youngest son, Mark Shaffer. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Wayne and Faye Murray, and her sister, Hallie Eileen (Whittier) Murray. While these losses weighed heavily on her heart, her resilience and capacity for love never wavered.
Her legacy of love lives on through her surviving family. She is survived by her eldest son, Neil W. (Melanie) Shaffer of Marion, her brother, Gary (Ginny) Murray of Marion, and her four grandchildren, Jon (Amy) Shaffer of Marion, Joe (Mary) Shaffer of Mt. Airy, MD, Aaron Shaffer of Riverside, CA, and Ashley (Chris) Fischer of Riverside, CA. She is also survived by four great granddaughters, and four great grandsons.
There will be a visitation at the Boyd Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 9, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The funeral service will follow the visitation at 1 p.m. There will be an interment service at Chapel Heights Memorial Garden, Marion, Ohio, where she will be laid to rest. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made out to the Marion Naz Church.
