Loretta Kay (Shaw) Hughes, 66, of Marion passed on November 13, 2021, after a long illness. Born November 1, 1955, in Lancaster, Ohio, she was known as “Rett” by most people. She was kind, generous, and thoughtful. Family and friends were her loving priority. She was always up for a family potluck or planning the next “granddaughter’s weekend”—a tradition started many years ago by our Grandma Browning. She was also part of the “Diva’s” group, a crafting bunch of friends who met as frequently as possible for creativity and fun. Each gathering began with Rett’s famous announcement: “Let’s party!” Rett was devoted to creating photo albums and completing family history projects to ensure that treasured moments were preserved for future generations.
Rett is survived by husband, Jeffrey Hughes, her son Brian (Savannah), and her precious granddaughters, Emma, and Lily. Rett’s surviving siblings are Rose Poling, LuAnne Frye, Chris Shaw, Joyce Blough, Brenda (Jack) Gibbons, Doug Shaw, and Becky (Dave) Burden. She is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Rett was preceded in death by parents Pius and Lois (Browning) Shaw, brothers Ronald and Gary, and parents-in-law Neal and Alice Hughes. Special thanks to Rose Poling and Hospice for their tender care.
The family invites all to attend a viewing to be held Friday, November 19, 2021, at St. Mary Church in Marion, Ohio at 9:30 a.m. Mass to follow at 10:30 a.m. with processional to Grand Prairie Cemetery. Reception following services at the Marion Salem United Methodist.
