Marilyn Dean Obituary

Marilyn Jo Dean, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and friend passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on March 2, 2024. Born on April 22, 1935, in Marion, she was the cherished daughter of Glenn and Pauline (Riley) Kellogg. Marilyn grew up in Oakland Heights and attended Harding High School, where she formed lifelong friendships.

She met the love of her life, Leroy C. Dean, Sr., while attending Edison Middle School, and they shared a beautiful journey together, marrying on May 29, 1952. Leroy survives her, a testament to their enduring love.

Marilyn was a devout member of Oakland United Methodist Church for over five decades, and in recent years, found solace and community at Mt. Vernon Avenue Church of Christ. Her faith was the cornerstone of her life, guiding her through both joyous and challenging times.

A dedicated matriarch, Marilyn devoted herself wholeheartedly to her family. She was a nurturing mother to her children, and she cherished every moment spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Marilyn's love knew no bounds, and her legacy of warmth and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.

In addition to her family, Marilyn's passion for baking and cooking brought joy to countless gatherings. Her famous meatloaf, stringy meat, chicken salad, apple dumplings, strawberry fluff, and puppy chow were legendary among family and friends. Her home was always open, with Friday evenings reserved for coffee and dessert, where laughter and love filled the air. She kept busy throughout her life helping her husband with his construction company until his retirement. She also spent time volunteering at Marion General Hospital.

Marilyn is survived by her daughter, Sherry Keller; grandchildren, Shawn (Holly) Keller, Dublin, Ohio, Michelle (Clay) Tillman, Marion, Ohio, Courtney Hostetter, Delaware, Ohio, Sam (Emilee) Hostetter, Van Wert, Ohio, Brian (Laura) Dean, Powell, Ohio, Angela (Ryan) Weber, Fort Liberty, North Carolina, Chris (Nicole) Fox, Indianapolis, Indiana; great-grandchildren: Zach, Elise, Jacquelynne, Alex, Ryleigh, Kaycee, Paislee, Rylee, Ethan, Audrey, Paige, Mason, Owen; great-great-grandchildren Avianna, Zayden, Ronan, Autzen, Haisley, Karter; her brother, Jack (Bea) Kellogg; and many cherished nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her children, Carol Lynn Dean, LeRoy C. Dean, Jr., and Lori Beth Hostetter, as well as her brothers, Gary Kellogg, Sr., and Leonard Kellogg.
