The world lost a beloved mother Marla Kay Hayford at the age of 77, on Sunday, February 21, 2021 at Marion General Hospital.
She was born on April 15, 1943 to the late Martin E. and Mary (McClellan) Keifer, Sr. in Ironton, Ohio. On January 4, 1965, she married the late Larry D. Hayford in Washington, D.C.
She graduated from Rockhill High School class of 1962. During her working career she held many different positions from a cook, a silk screener and also an election worker. She also volunteered as a Girl Scout Leader. She belonged to the Women Moose Lodge # 889 in Marion, Ohio. She looked forward to the Friday night drawings and spending time with her friends. She loved bingo, bowling, playing slots and traveling to visit her families and friends. Her sweet and kind soul will be truly be missed by the lives that she touched.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her brothers: Martin E. Keifer, Jr. and Richard “Dick” Keplar.
Those who will cherish her memories include her daughters: Mary (Jerry) Stapleton of Ironton, OH and Cheryl (Sophol) Hem of Chelsea, MA; her five grandchildren: April Blair, Duane (Sarah) Dixon, David (Jessie) Stapleton, Nathan Hem and Laila Hem; and her sixteen great grandchildren: Dominic Dixon, Kaydence Stapleton, Aydan Blair, Jerry D. Stapleton III, Kaytlin Dixon, Royce Stapleton, Bridgette Stapleton, Hunter Stapleton, Isabella Stapleton, Brantley Stapleton, Lilyana Dixon, Maggie Stapleton, Melodie Dixon, Zanobia Risner, Chloe Risner and Eyan Risner; and two great-great grandchildren: Abigail Risner and Ocean Risner.
She will also be missed by her extended families, and friends: Connie Keifer, Pam Tackett, Abby Workman, Toney Risner, Jr. and Toney Risner, Sr.
Her nieces and nephews will always have a special place in her heart.
Private services will be held. Burial will take place at the Marion Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Marla’s memory to American Heart Association, 300 S.
