Mary Gorton Obituary

Mary M. Abrams Gorton age 90, passed away on Thursday, April 30, 2026, in the care of the Marion General Hospital. Mary was born in Richwood, OH, on March 3, 1936, to her late parents, Charles F. Hook and Harriet (Eldridge) Hook.

Mary worked at Tecumseh Products on the assembly line for a little over 8 years before retiring. She would get married to her first husband of 25 years, Chester Abrams, and they would be together until his passing. She later would go on to get married to her second husband of 9 years, Jim Gorton, and they would be together until his passing. Mary was a woman of God and the church, avidly attending the State Street Community Church. She also was part of the choir and liked to sing. Besides work and her faith, she held her family close to her heart. She loved to entertain/host her family’s get togethers, cooking and enjoying their company. She also loved her four-legged companion, “Addie”. In her free time, she could be found on her iPad.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, two sons, Daniel and William “Billy” Abrams, her daughter-in-law, Shela Abrams, brothers, Charlie, Jerry, and Donald Hook, and her sister, Betty Hook.

She leaves her legacy and memories to be cherished by her son, Mark (Cathy) Abrams, daughter, Nancy (Jeff Osborn) Abrams, grandchildren, Matt (Anna) Abrams, Robin (Dan) Benedict, Scott Abrams, Mike (Charmin) Large, Darren (Angie) Large, Crystal (Chris Saylor) Abrams, Alicia (Tommy) Teets, and Amber (Justin) Polley, 27 great grandchildren, 13 great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and her good friends, Tammy Welch, Michael Smith, and Johnnie King.

The Gorton family would like to invite all who knew Mary to join them at the State Street Community Church on Wednesday, May 13, 2026, for calling hours from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. The funeral service will begin immediately after calling hours.
