Mary "Mammy" Alice Withrow

Mary “Mammy” Alice Withrow, age 90 of Marion, passed away on Sunday, September 24, 2023 surrounded by those who loved her.

Mammy was born on February 14, 1933 to her mom and daddy, the late Stanley and Hazel Tippett. She had three sisters, Virginia Porter, Katherine Ruppenthal, Janice “Hamy” Crone and a brother, Dickie.

Mammy was married to Robert “Bob” Withrow on November 23, 1952, in Kinsman, Ohio.  Through their love they had two children, Mark (Susan) Withrow of Delaware, Ohio and Doug (Rebekah) Withrow of Marion, Ohio. Mammy was the grandmother of five grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren.

She worked at the Marion Power Shovel in the early 50’s and then at the family’s business, Wilhelms Paints, for 45 years.

Always gentle in her hugs and firm in her beliefs, Mammy raised three generations. Mammy was the cornerstone of her family. From her kitchen and her rocking chair flowed infinite love, kindness, and support for all those she loved. She loved each and every one of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with intensity and purpose.

Friends and family may come to honor Mammy’s life from 9:30am to 10:30am on Saturday, September 30, 2023 at Cornerstone Alliance Church, 2010 Marion-Marysville Road, Marion, Ohio 43302. A funeral service will start at 10:30am to 11:30am at the church. After the funeral service, please join the family for a Celebration of Life Gathering at the church. Donations may be given in her memory to the Marion Community Foundation, 504 South State Street, Marion, Ohio 43302.
