Max Lowe Obituary

Max Kelvin Lowe, loving husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 69 on Tuesday, April 27, 2021.  He passed peacefully at Fairhaven Community Center in Upper Sandusky after a five-year battle with cancer.

Max was born on May 24, 1951 to Eugene T. Lowe and Yvonne D. (Martin) Miles in Ironton, Ohio. He had two brothers, Dean and Dwight Lowe. He served in the United States Air Force from 1971-1975.

In February of 1980, he was hit by a car and projected to never be able to walk again. Not only did he walk again, but he built his strength and returned to play and coach fast pitch softball. One of his crowning achievements was fixing up the field at Kennedy Park on Route 309 and creating a new fast pitch softball league.

He married Kathy Jo Young of Stockbridge, Georgia, on June 8, 1986. They had three daughters, Amanda, Kristen, and Amber. He worked at Whirlpool from 1976 to 1995, when the family moved to Georgia for several years so his daughters could become close to their grandfather. The family returned to Marion, Ohio in 2003.

Max attended the Upper Sandusky Church of the Nazarene.  He loved singing, reading his Bible, and writing poems. He also enjoyed watching the Cincinnati Reds, Cleveland Browns and the Ohio State Buckeyes.  Max was known for his loud, friendly laughter and for “never knowing a stranger.” He also had a passion for writing. He wrote many beautiful poems and songs over the years that comforted others in times of grief.

Max always believed that his mission was to help others. As he often said, he would give you the shirt off his back. He taught his daughters never to look down on anyone, and to always offer to help others. He spent his final few years at Fairhaven Community, blessing both residents and employees with friendship and prayer. He was so excited to become a grandfather in August 2019.

Max was preceded in death by his father Eugene and his brother Dean. Those who will cherish his memories include his mother Yvonne, his wife Kathy, his daughters, Amanda Mayhew, Kristen (Thomas) Spaulding, and Amber (Ethan Lancaster) Lowe, and his grand-daughter Kieran Spaulding. He is also survived by his brother, Dwight (Michelle) Lowe, and many loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Friends and family may come to honor Max’s life on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Upper Sandusky Church of the Nazarene, 845 Marseilles Avenue, Upper Sandusky, Ohio 43351. A visitation hour will be held from 10 AM-11 AM, directly followed by a Celebration of Life service with Pastor Eric Anderson officiating.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be given in Max’s memory to the missionary fund at any local church.
