On August 13, 2024 Melvin Leroy Henderson Sr. of Cleveland, Ohio,
departed this life at age 84. He was a fearless, courageous, and resilient man of his
day. He cherished his family, especially his four children, held a burning passion
for Cleveland and was a diehard Cleveland Browns fan until the end.
Melvin Sr. was small in stature but had a big appetite. Meal time was to be
savored and enjoyed; he also passed this on to his family. His tenacious spirit
allowed him to overcome his many obstacles. He played out any hand he was dealt
and never complained.
Melvin’s famous quotes were “It’s always good to hear good news!”, and he
liked to tease the children with “See my finger, see my thumb, see my fist, you
better run!”.
Melvin was preceded in death by his mother, Zola Henderson of Georgia;
his only brother, The Late Reverend Johnathan Thornton Henderson, of Cleveland
Heights, Ohio; his loving son, Johnathan Lamar Henderson; and his ex-wife
Joan Bannon-Henderson-Roscoe.
He leaves behind to celebrate his life and adventurous memories with his loving
children, Melvin L. Henderson Jr., of Dayton, Ohio, Duane V. Henderson
(Deborah), of Marion, Ohio and Jacqueline D. Henderson-Twine (Albert), of
Marion, Ohio. Eleven grandchildren, Albert Twine II (Eunice), Wynelle O’Neal
(Brendan), Maurice Pettite, Rafeal Twine, Jacqueline Twine Jr., Isaiah Twine,
Michael Henderson, Jordan Henderson, Ebonee Henderson, Jonathan Henderson,
and Rebekka Twine. Ten great-grandchildren, Natavia, Nariah, Albert III, Elijah,
Isaiah, Moriah, Macaiah, Anaiah, Zee, and Cameron. Two nieces, Lynette
Henderson-Greene and Tracy Griffin, and a host of family and friends.
Melvin Henderson Sr. got his wings and now resides in our Heavenly Father’s loving arms.
