Monique Delphine Pugh, age 60, of Mt. Gilead, passed away at the Marion General Hospital on Thursday, January 8, 2026. Monique was born on Friday, December 31, 1965, in Bakersfield, California, to the late Kenneth and Vera (Currier) Nelson.
Monique loved to talk and keep in touch with those close to her. She loved to see people happy and laugh and was known to send out Facebook reels and memes at all hours of the night. She was a homemaker and took pride in keeping a kept house. She loved to clean almost as much as she loved to cook. When she was relaxing, she enjoyed coloring and “scratchers.” Another thing that set her apart was how easy she was to startle. This became a sport within the family to see who could make Monique jump!
She loved all her grandkids but was especially close to grandson Erick. She would do anything she could for him and even rode with him in his 4-wheeler in her night gown when he came to pick her up. If was from Erick that she was given her nicknames “Mama Puke and Mama Monkey Hair.”
Left to cherish the memory of Monique are sons, Derrick (Danelle) Coles, Darren Currier, Roger (Shawna) Pugh, Philip Pugh Jr., Nick (Ashley) Pugh, Mike Pugh, and Danny “DJ” (Tracy) Russell, Daughters Susie (Sean) Atkins, and Jennifer Russell, sisters, Betty Currier and Delilah “Dee Dee” Currier and Significant Other Danny Ray “Dan” Russell, who playfully trained her grandson Erick to gag every time he gave her a kiss, along with too many grandkids to mention and numerous nieces and nephews.
Monique is preceded in death by Husband Philip Pugh Sr., daughter, Peggy Chagolla, and grandchildren, Isaiah Roberts, and Magdalyn Coles.
