Nancy Louise Casteel, age 88, passed away peacefully on May 4 , 2026, at Presidential Acute Care in Marion, Ohio surrounded by her loving family.
Nancy was born on March 12, 1938, in Newcomerstown, the daughter of Lawrence B. Dayton and Leeliah B. (Aronholt) Dayton.
She married the love of her life, Harold Craig Casteel, on June 25, 1955, and together they built a life centered on family, faith, and hard work.
Nancy graduated from Newcomerstown High School in 1956. She later pursued her calling in nursing, graduating from the LPN program at Marion General Hospital School of Nursing in 1972. She worked for several years as a surgical nurse before continuing her education at Marion Technical College, where she earned her RN degree in 1979.
Nancy dedicated her life to caring for others. She served as a surgical nurse and labor and delivery nurse at Marion General Hospital for many years. In 1989, she began a new chapter as a traveling surgical nurse, working in hospitals throughout the United States. Her compassion strength, and dedication to her patients left a lasting impact on countless lives. She retired from nursing at the age of 72 after an extraordinary career devoted to helping others.
Nancy was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Church and also volunteered her time with St. Vincent de Paul Society, always giving generously to those in need.
She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Harold Casteel, in 1977; her parents, Lawrence and Leeliah Dayton; her sister, Margaret Early; and her daughter, Katherine (Casteel) LeVeck.
Nancy is survived by her loving Sister Priscilla Musser Orrville, Ohio, Her Children: Steven (Theresa) Casteel of Marion, David (Laura) Casteel of Lenior City, TN and Beth Casteel of Marion. She also leaves behind 8 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and 3 great-great-grandchildren, all of whom brought great joy to her life.
Nancy will be remembered for her loving heart, unwavering work ethic, deep faith, and the compassion she showed to everyone she met. Her legacy of kindness and service will continue to live on through all who knew and loved her.
A Catholic Mass and Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
