Norma Denney Obituary

Our beloved wife, mom, grandma, and great grammy, Norma Jean (Calbert) Denney died on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at the age 90. Norma was born April 8, 1934, in Cardington, Ohio to the late James E. and Donna R. (Geckley) Calbert, being the oldest child of 5 children. Norma lived most of her life in Marion, Ohio, moving from Cardington in 1945.

She was a 1952 graduate of Harding High School in Marion. She worked at Marion General Hospital in the maintenance and Nuclear Medicine Departments  as a Secretary/Receptionist for 22 years. She retired in 1996. She was a member of P.E.R.I. retirement group.

Norma was of Methodist faith, with a membership at Meeker UMC and more recently transferring that membership to Prospect Street UMC. She volunteered in the ABC quilt program making quilts for the Nationwide Children’s Hospital. Her Hobbies were crocheting, embroidery, word search puzzles and keeping a meticulous house.

She married Ernest E. Denney on January 15, 1954, in Marion, Ohio at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel by the Rev. Howard Orewiler. She is survived by Ernest and 2 children, son Steven (Debbie) from Eatonton, Georgia and daughter Julia from Delaware, Ohio. She is survived by 3 grandsons: Dr. Evan (Kristen) Bayles of Dayton, Kentucky, Matthew  (Elizabeth) Denney of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Christopher (Kayla) Denney of Columbus, Ohio. Also surviving are 2 great-granddaughters, Tobin Bayles and Quincy Bayles, both of Dayton, Kentucky, along with several nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was also preceded in death by 3 sisters, and 1 brother, Virginia Thacker, Shirley Connelly, Judith Thompson, and James S. Calbert.

There will be a graveside service, for Norma at the Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Monday, December 30, 2024, at 11am with Pastor Kathy Herr officiating. In Lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made in Norma’s honor to the Meeker United Methodist Church, Prospect Street UMC or a charity of the donor's choice.. The Boyd Funeral Home is honored to be assisting the family of Norma Jean Denney in their time of mourning.
