Norma Jeane Hughes

Norma Jeane Hughes left her earthly life to enter heaven on May 13, 2025. She was born on March 21, 1926, in Marion to the late Harry and Malinda (Krouse) Long. On November 21, 1942, Norma married the love of her life, David R. Hughes who preceded her in death on April 7, 1978, after 36 years of marriage. They were blessed with three sons. Larry David (Susan) of Texas; Steven Ray (deceased); Jeffrey Lyn, who entered Heaven shortly after birth; three grandchildren, Julie (Wade) Huffine of Marion; Stephanie Hughes and Ryan Hughes of Texas.

After her husband was drafted in WWII, Norma started employment at the Ordinance Plant, where she was a government inspector for the manufacturing of life rafts. She also modeled for Sutton and Lightner clothing in Marion. Once the war ended and her husband returned, they started their family. Norma became a devoted mother and homemaker. Norma and David became members of the Church of Christ on N. Main St., in Marion in 1949. After building the new church building on Richland Rd. in Marion, she continued her membership, devoted to her church and her love for the Lord. Norma loved music and sang for over 50 years with a ladies’ trio called, “The Tones”. A member of the Senior Center and sang there in a chorus called, “Seniors in Song”, and loved playing her electric organ. She loved her family and friends and was always willing to help someone whenever she could. She loved her lunch time with the senior group from church. They were called the “Amazing Greys”.

Norma was preceded in death by two sisters and their husbands; Esther Blank and Elizabeth Dix; a brother; Ronald Long and his wife Carroll. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held on May 29, 2025, at the Marion Cemetery. Pastor Russell Howard will be officiating all services.
