Richard Callan Obituary

Richard N. Callan, age 88 of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, November 29, 2023 at Marion General Hospital surrounded by his loving family.

Richard was born on March 22, 1935 to the late Ralph and Helen (Drumm) Callan in Croton, Ohio.  On May 10, 1986, he married Glendoris Newland in Marion, Ohio.

Richard served our country in the United States Army from 1958 - 1960.  He attended Emmanuel Baptist Church.  Richard spent several years operating a beef farm and then a dairy farm in Utica, Ohio before retiring as a truck driver for Liebert Corporation in Columbus, Ohio.  In retirement he enjoyed several hobbies including snowmobiling, handy work, feeding birds, spending time with his grandchildren and woodworking.  He will be missed by family and friends.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents, Ralph and Helen Callan and his sister, Barbara Newcomb.

Those who will cherish his memories include his wife of 37 years, Glendoris Callan of Marion, Ohio; his children: Pamela (Dave) Stewart of Newark, Ohio, Beverly (David) Keener of Grandville, Ohio and Brenda Bryant of Columbus, Ohio; his step children: Bill (Mickey) Griffith of Victorville California, Sue (Rick) Knotts of Richwood, Ohio, Rodney (Lita) Griffith of Waynesburg, Kentucky and Nancy (Brad) Simpkins of Marion, Ohio; his brother, Ed Callan; his grandchildren: Cory (Lori) Stuart; Rae Stuart; Chris (Kristin) Stuart, Michelle (Anthony) Frick; Ashley (Levi) Baker-Hunter of Granville, Ohio; Kelsey (Jared) McLaughlin of Granville, Ohio; Alicia Avery of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Whitney Callan of Columbus, Ohio; Kayla (Mike) Adams of California; Josh (Amy) Griffith of Texas; Becky Higgason of Fontana, California; Jesse Higgason of Norco, California; Samantha (Adam) Shank of Powell, Ohio; Bobbie (Steven) Sisko of Lewis Center, Ohio; Anthony Griffith of Wooster, Ohio; Aubry Griffith of Poth, Texas; Katie Griffith of Massachusetts; Jacklyn (Wesly) Tagg of Painesville, Ohio; Nicholas (Selena) Burkhardt of Marion, Ohio: 25 great grandchildren, several great - great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. 

Friends and family may come to honor his life at a graveside service on Saturday, May 11, 2024 starting at 11am at Chapel Heights Memory Gardens with military honors by the Marion Area Veterans Council.  Donations may be given in Richard’s memory to Ohio Health Hospice – Marion, 1713 Marion-Mt. Gilead Road, Marion, Ohio 43302.  The Boyd Funeral Home is honored to be serving the Callan family.
