Richard "Dick" Thatcher

    A celebration of life is being planned for Richard A. (Dick) Thatcher for Saturday, June 19, 2021, at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 930 Harding Memorial Parkway, Marion, OH at 2:00 PM. Calling hours will be held prior to the service from 12:00 – 2:00 PM. Due to health concerns, the family was not able to honor Dick until now.

    Dick was 86 when he passed to his heavenly home on Tuesday, March 24, 2020, surrounded by his family. He was born on October 22, 1933 to the late Earl R. and Mildred L. (O’Dowd) Thatcher, the first of four sons.

     Dick was a life-long Marion resident and married the love of his life, Phyllis (Ware) on August 11, 1957. They shared over 62 wonderful years together and raised four children. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1955 – 1957 and was a lifelong member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Marion, where he taught Sunday School and served on Church Council and numerous committees. Dick was very community minded and was involved in many organizations, including Junior Achievement, Marion Area Council on Aging, Marion Senior Citizens and, most notably, The Y-Mens Service Club.

     Dick is survived by his loving wife, Phyllis of Marion, and his four children, Marsha Thatcher, Randy (Tracey) Thatcher, Nancy (John) Robertson, and Susan (Doug) Kielmeyer, 7 grandchildren, and 12 great grandchildren. He also leaves behind a brother, Michael (Sherry) Thatcher of Huron and many nieces and nephews. His brothers, Robert and William Thatcher preceded him in death.
