Richard "Huck" Howard

Richard L. “Huck” Howard, age 89 of Marion, passed away on Wednesday, May 8, 2024 at Marion General Hospital. On August 20, 1934, he was born in Delaware, Ohio, to the late Harry and Jeanette (Humes) Howard, and on August 18, 1956, he married his beloved wife, Patricia “Patsy” (Speck).

Huck worked at Ohio Edison for 44 years until his retirement, and he was a member of Emanuel Lutheran Church. He was a past president of the Marion Country Club and the Marion Evening Lions, but most importantly, he proudly served his country in the United States Armed Forces.

He spent time as a football official, and he was a lifelong golfer, having 3 holes-in-one to his name. He most recently golfed at King’s Mill. For the past 20 years, he met up with his McDonald’s Coffee Crew every morning to enjoy the company of his close friends, and those mornings just won’t be the same without him.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 67 years, Patsy Howard; his daughters Lee Ann (Warren) Kohler and Jennifer (Dale) Ebert; his sister Carol Phillips; his grandchildren Ashley (Billy) Kohler and Brittany (Jim) Fischer; his great-grandchildren Preston Harbolt, Parker Harbolt, and Emily (Damian) Murrell; his sister-in-law Kay (Jerry) Northup; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Jeanette Howard; his sisters Barbara Stiffler and Helen Harrington; his great-granddaughter Katie Fischer; and his beloved mother-in-law Beulah Speck.

A graveside service will be held at Marion Cemetery on Thursday, May 23, 2024 at 1 pm. The family requests that attendees wear their favorite golf attire in honor of Huck’s favorite hobby.
