Roberta Crawford, age 90, passed away peacefully at Marion General Hospital Sunday evening December 7th after a brief illness. She had been a resident of Primrose Retirement Community of Marion for the last 4 years.
The lifelong Marion resident was born to Ralph G and Evelyn Flanigan Cramer on October 30th, 1935. On January 28th,1955, she married Melton “Mike” Crawford, they shared 53 years together.
She attended Marion City Schools knowing from an early age she would be in the teaching profession. After attending Bowling Green State University, she began her long teaching career at the age of 20, teaching in different grade assignments at George Washington, Vernon, and Oakland Elementaries before retiring in 1997.
Roberta lovingly served her church, Forest Lawn Presbyterian, in different capacities beginning with teaching Sunday school at age 16 and then as occasional organist, deacon, and elder. She loved gardening, cultivating a large and impressive daily lily collection over the last 20 years.
Roberta was preceded on death by her parents, husband Mike, sister Judith Cramer Keller, and beloved son Jonathan Michael Crawford.She is survived by dear children Jennifer (Bob) Haviland of Marion, Ohio and Chris (Laurie) Crawford of Ft. Meyers, Florida. Also surviving are her grandchildren: Benjamin (Bre) Haviland, Nicholas Haviland, Kyle Crawford, Madison Crawford Barnes, and Mekala Crawford. She was blessed with six great grandchildren: Robert Layne Haviland, Mason and Lucy Haviland, Slayter Jon and Dakota Crawford, and Ashton Johnson. She has 4 nieces: Sharon Keller Gore, Sheila Creviston-Twibell, Cacia Crawford Masser and Kristin Crawford, along with one nephew Gregan Crawford.
Her life revolved around her Lord Jesus Christ, her family, and her profession. Burial will be at Grand Prairie Cemetery, at a later date, with graveside services provided by Pastor Joel Fetter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions would be a blessing to one of the following: the Lymphoma and Leukemia Foundation in loving memory of Jon and in honor of Chris, the Stephanie Spielman Cancer fund in honor of Jennifer, or St. Judes Research Hospital in her name.
