Rodney “Rod” Lee Dillinger, age 76, passed away Thursday, August 14, 2025, at his home in the loving embrace of his wife’s arms. He was born on November 29, 1948, to his late parents, Norman Owen Dillinger and Virginia Lee Williams. He would find the love of his life, Sandra Dillinger, and ask for her hand in marriage on November 24, 1979. They would go on to enjoy 46 years of marriage.
Rod graduated from Ridgedale High School. He then enlisted into the United States Navy, serving aboard the USS Saint Paul (CA-73), whose distinction was to have provided the most naval gunfire support rounds of any ship in the Vietnam War. He went on to work tirelessly as a Lab Technician for Parker-Hannafin for 25 years in Green Camp, OH, and then at PPG for 15 years in Delaware, OH. Rod enjoyed the outdoors. He was also a talented artist and wood worker. Above all else, Rod cherished his wife and family deeply.
Rod was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Dana Dillinger (2023).
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Sandy Dillinger, daughters, Bridgitte Castro, Connie (Dan) Meyersburg, grandchildren, Jennifer Casperson, Katie Housworth, Sandy Castro Christie Castro, Lance Travis, Cody Travis, and Brooke Travis, many grand and great grandchildren, his siblings, Darr (Sarah) Dillinger, Dru (David) Wells, and Dale Dillinger.
Rod’s family would like to invite his family and loved ones to join them for calling hours on Monday, August 18, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. The funeral service will start at 12 p.m. There will be an interment service immediately after the funeral service at the Marion Cemetery. Pastor Joe Harrison will be officiating all services.
