Ronald James Newland, a beloved brother, father, uncle, grandfather, great-grandfather, passed away peacefully on December 24, 2024, at the age of 87. Born on January 18, 1937, in Morral, Ohio, Ron was the cherished son of Robert E. Newland and Helen (Moore) Newland. Ron graduated from Meeker High School in 1956, where he was celebrated as a star athlete, particularly for his skills on the basketball court. He went on to lead a fulfilling career, retiring from Eaton Manufacturing in 1992 after many years of dedication. Following retirement, he enjoyed over a decade of work at the Island House Hotel on Mackinac Island, Michigan, forming lasting friendships and memories.
Throughout his life, Ron lived in Big Island, Ohio; Cheboygan and Canadian Lakes, Michigan; and Arcadia and Ocala, Florida. Wherever he called home, his love for the outdoors remained constant. He found joy in fishing, hunting, and hiking, embodying a deep appreciation for nature. Ron was known for his kindness, strength, and tireless work ethic, leaving a legacy of love and dedication for his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his son, David Newland, and loving wife, Polly Newland.
He is survived by his sister Glendoris (Newland) Callen, children Daniel Newland and Karen (Newland) Cunningham, his step sons Randy and Mike Shull, as well as his devoted life partner, Geraldine Jaskiewicz.
His family extends across generations, as he was a proud grandfather and great-grandfather who cherished time spent with his loved ones.
A celebration of Ron's life will be held on May 10, 2025, at Seaton Square in Marion, Ohio. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew him. Rest in peace, Ron/Dad. You will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for the love, strength, and joy you brought to so many.
