Vella Edna Yager

Vella Edna Yager 92, died on Friday August 25th 2023 surrounded by her family. Vella was born in Minerton Ohio, on October 7th 1930 to the late Jeremiah and Ethel (Oiler) Thacker. Vella grew up in Wilksville with her parents and 16 brothers and sisters. She graduated from Wilksville High in 1949, After graduating, she moved to Marion, Ohio where she met her late Husband Harry Yager. They got married in the summer of 1950. Vella and Harry created a life in Marion with their four children. Three daughters Debra Yager, Christina Yager, Mistee Yager, and their late son Brent Yager. Vella worked at Marion general hospital for several years and ended her career babysitting kids for over 20 years. Vella attended church regularly at Peace Community church, she always trusted in her faith and relationship with God during the joyous times and through hardships. She enjoyed writing; one of her poems “Listen Closely” was published at her church. Vella’s most precious times were spent with her family. Her grandchildren were her pride and joy, grandson Mason Lindsey and granddaughter Paxton Lindsey. She loved her family fiercely and her joy and happiness were infectious to those around her. She especially enjoyed singing to her grandchildren and great grandchildren, her great grandson Eric Houghton and great granddaughter (name sake) Vella Houghton. Vella was a kind soul who lived life through her faith in God and her heart full of love for her family.

Vella is Survived by her daughters Debra Yager, Christina Yager, Mistee Keller, Her Sister Terry Hickman, Her grandson Mason Lindsey, Granddaughter Paxton Lindsey, her great grandson Eric Houghton, her great granddaughter Vella Houghton, and many Nieces and Nephews.

Vella was preceded in death by Husband Harry Yager, son Brent Yager, and brothers and sisters, Della, Elizabeth, Freda, Betty, Sadie, Clara (boots), Ruby, Junior, Henry, Jesse, Raymond (Dean), Marion (Leo), Roy (Peewee), Paul, and Clarence (Eddie).

 The family will receive family and friends from 5-7pm on Wednesday August 30th at Boyd’s funeral home. Her celebration of life service will take place on Thursday August 31st at Peace Community Church starting at 11:00am followed by her burial.  Donations made be given in Vella’s memory to: Alzheimer's Association, P.O.
