Violet Mary (Stierhoff) Griffith-Ward, age 95, of Marion, OH, passed away on Thursday,
June 26, 2025, in Dublin, OH at the Senior Star Dublin Retirement Village. Violet was
born on September 18, 1929, to the late Howard Conrad and Geneva A. (Huston)
Stierhoff, in East Liberty, OH. Those who knew and loved her called her Vi, Mom, and
Grams.
Violet excelled in high school, later working as an administrative assistant and a
bookkeeper for both Marion Welding and Ohio Beverage, thanks to her strong math
skills. She was an active member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waldo, OH, where she
participated in Bible Study and Circle.
An adventurer at heart, Vi traveled the world with family and friends, visiting nearly
every continent - New Zealand being her favorite destination. She was generous with
her time, financial resources, and personal gifts. This was reflected in her volunteer
work with Marion hospice, her service on the Board of the Marion Homeless Shelter,
and her love of crocheting hats and blankets for premature babies.
Ultimately though, Vi was known as Grams. Her favorite pastime was spent with her
grandchildren. Whether she was quietly drinking coffee, working on a crossword puzzle,
collecting antiques, laughing at a retold story, or hosting at Candlewood Lake, she lived
a remarkable life full of love.
Violet is survived by, son, David (Cynthia) Scott, daughter, LaVonne (Thomas) Flach,
sisters, Retta Retterer, and Barbara Hervey, 3 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
Violet was preceded in death by parents, 3 husbands, Homer Scott, Jack Griffith, and
James Ward, and brothers, Ted and Dan Stierhoff.
The memorial gathering will be held at the Boyd Funeral Home on Saturday, July 19, 2025 from 10am until 11:30am with
the celebration of life starting at 11:30 with Pastor Jennifer Gonsalves officiating. The committal
service will be taking place at the Historic Marion Cemetery immediately following the
funeral procession. In Lieu of flowers, Violet has asked that donations be made to the
Heart of Ohio Homeless Shelter or Capital City Hospice of Columbus, OH. The Boyd
