Virgil A. Steurer, age 85 of Nevada, passed away on Sunday, October 22, 2023 at his home, surrounded by his loving family. On September 10, 1938, he was born in Marion County to the late Charles and Flossie (Van Buskirk) Steurer, and on June 24, 1961, he married the love of his life, Dorothy Jane (Reeder).
Virgil worked for Whirlpool as a team leader for 45 years, and he also enjoyed working what he called his “hobby farm” for 68 years. He was a member of Grand Prairie Baptist Church for 56 years, where he served as a trustee and deacon. He also proudly served his country in the United States Army.
He enjoyed collecting trains and model tractors, and his wife fondly remembers how he began collecting bells with her, even if it wasn’t quite his thing. He was an incredible husband, father, and grandfather, and he will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Dorothy Steurer; his sons Gary (Joy) Steurer, Chester (Laura) Steurer, and Thomas (Karla) Steurer; his daughter Dianna Steurer; his brother Howard (Gloria) Steurer; and his grandchildren Aaron (Andrea), Kyle, Kayla, Joshua, Ashley, Kirsten, Katelyn, William, and Hannah.
He was preceded in death by his parents Charles and Flossie.
Family and friends may call on Friday, October 27, 2023 from 11 am to 12 pm at Grand Prairie Baptist Church, 4893 Marion-Upper Sandusky Rd., Marion. Services will follow at 12 pm at the church.
